SAPPHIRE
MYTH:
Sapphires symbolize truth, sincerity, and faithfulness.

It is also thought to be the most sacred gemstone--kings and priests wore them, believing that they represented divine favor.
Although they are most often found in a deep blue color, sapphires extend to a spectrum of colors.  This gem is often dubbed the "gem of the heavens" because it comes in every shade that the sky encompasses:  from midnight blue to the bright cerulean of the noon sky in the Mediterranean; from the golden hue of a sunrise to the fiery reddish-orange of sunsets, and the delicate violet of twilight.  Sapphires are extremely hard stones, second only to diamonds.  Sapphires are also popular for enagement rings, for they symbolize sincerity and faithfulness.
Ancient Persians believed that the Earth rested on a giant sapphire, whose reflection colored the sky.
