TOPAZ
MYTH:
Legend has it that topaz will change color in the presence of poisoned food or drink.
It is also thought to cure insomnia and asthma, improve eyesight, and increase strength.
Some believe that topaz makes its wearer invisible in times of emergency.
Today, topaz has blue hues in addition to its traditional golden colors. Topaz is usually heated to bring out blue tones.
Blue topaz is found most often in Brazil, and comes in three different shades, from deepest to palest:
London Blue topaz, Swiss Blue topaz, and Sky Blue topaz
.
Topaz has always been known for its golden hue. Ancient peoples associated the stone with the sun and therefore kept it in high regard. Ancient Egyptians believed that topaz was colored with the golden glow of Ra, their sun god; they thought that wearing a topaz would protect the faithful against harm. Ancient Romans also associated topaz with their sun god, Jupiter.

Topaz can be found in a variety of colors. It sometimes has the amber gold of fine cognac or the blush of a peach, and all of the beautiful warm browns and oranges in between.
